Short Girl Problems

Hi guys and dolls!

I've been AWAL for a little while now, sorry. It's purely been down to work, exams and illness (again).

As some of you may have seen on Twitter, my boyfriend and I split up at the start of October and I've been trying to make some lifestyle changes. It hasn't really happened except I don't eat near as many take aways as I used to so I have slimmed down a little, there's only so many times you can hear 'Wow, you've changed/look different' before you want to just shake them and say 'JUST SAY I'VE LOST WEIGHT'.

Anyway, I've noticed that since I've lost weight, more people are commenting on my height. I'm 21 on 13th January and I've been 5'2 since I was 13 years old so obviously, I'm not going to grow any more. I decided to make a 'little' list of the reasons it kinda sucks to be a short.

1) Being called cute/adorable

Sometimes, it's really nice to be cute and adorable and for lads to think you need to be protected but other times I want to be hot or sexy. I'm not an animal, please don't keep calling me cute.
This is classed as cute.

This is not.

2) Driving

I always get the piss taken out of me because my seat is pulled right forward and I have to wear sunglasses because I'm too small to use my visor. The amount of times I've been asked if I'd like a booster seat is unbelievable.

3) ID

Recently, I went to a supermarket in my work uniform (which are a set of scrubs, not like casual clothes) to buy some lunch and a can of Red Bull. I was amazed when I was ID'd for the energy drink. I'm used to in when I'm in casual clothes but in my work uniform? Really?! I've been ID'd for deodorant, pain killers, nail varnish remover. You have to be 16 to buy these! 16! I'M NEARLY 21 AND YOU'RE SAYING I LOOK LIKE A BAIRN*!

4) Jeans/trousers/leggings

Forever with the turn ups or hours of searching for 'petite' sizes. No fun guys, no fun.

5) High Heels

At best, I'm average height in high heels that includes platforms. I still get lost in clubs so it helps to use the festival 'swan hand'.

This is a genuine picture of my friends and I last year. I'm still the smallest by miles.

6) Heights

I might as well carry a step around with me. I spend my life scrambling on counters, nearly popping my shoulders out of place or jumping around to reach whatever I need.

7) Coats

That 'knee length' coat is more like an ankle/floor length coat on me. It's not a good look unless you're pretending to be a ghost or a vampire hunter.

8) Being picked up

Seriously, it's not fun! I hate being picked up and evvvvvvvvvvvvvvvveryone thinks that because I'm small, picking me up when I'm angry is a fantastic idea. It's not. I hate being out of control and vulnerable like having my feet off the floor.

My idea of hell right there. I'm having heart palpitations just looking at it.

9) Weight gain

Every pound you gain is noticeable. Every. Single. Pound. Man the harpoons, I've put on 3 pounds.

An artist's rendition of me on the beach.

10)  Pointing it out

Yes, I noticed I'm small, saying 'Wow, you're small' is just inviting a sarcy comeback or a bitchy comment. It's more annoying when it's strangers, drunken or not. My other personal favourites are 'Can you even see?' Whilst in a crowd, 'Are you sure you're tall enough to ride this?' Well yea, I am cos I even measured myself against the little sign and all time favourite 'Would you like me to describe it to you or would you like me to find you a box?' Yea, I love Lord of the Rings but please, don't use that against me.

Positive note

People tend to be nicer to you when you're small and struggling to reach things is a great way to meet hot guys or new friends.

I'm off to Edinburgh for the week so I'll see you lovely people in a little while. I'll hopefully do a post of my week in the Burgh as I'm going to the Christmas market and going to see Wicked (super excited face!).

Cancer, mental illness and me

Hey guys and dolls!

I decided that this was way too long a thing to write about so I have done a *ahem* little video....

Sorry it's so long but there is a lot to talk about and I really wanted people to understand how bad things are some an insiders point of view. Not just on Cancer but on subjects such as depression and suicide.

I'd also like to clear up and that I'm not as thick as I come across in the video.

I've popped some information about the related charities below. I will definitely be watching the Stand Up to Cancer programmes next week because it's soo amazing what they do....and Rory McIlroy's on it and I have a massive crush on him.

I've nothing against people from Newcastle, I promise. I just don't like being called a Geordie when I'm not from Newcastle.

The Stand Up to Cancer event is on 17th October at 7pm. You can donate by texting FIVE or TEN to 70404 or online at here.

For any more information on helping with mental illnesses, click here to learn more on the Time To Change website.

Coppafeel also have loads of information on checking your breasts and ways to donate.

CHECK YOUR BOOBIES!

Sorry for how long this video is and for crying. I will be back to all things make up when my Halloween costume arrives.

P.S. The only reason I was ignoring my house phone was because only call centres and robots ring me on that.

Harley Quinn

Hello guys and dolls!

So, Halloween is fast approaching and I've been thinking and planning this look for a little while now and I've finally got round to actually doing it!

It's really difficult being a blondie at Halloween because, obviously, everything is supposed to be gothic and spooky which really work when you have lighter hair and there's only so many times you can see a dead nurse/school girl/other generic sexy/scary costume before you get bored.
After a bit of looking on Google and Youtube, I eventually found Harley Quinn and I fell in love with the idea of recreating her in my way.

I'll list all the products I used at the end but it's a pretty simple look to recreate and I think it's super dramatic.

I started with the hair. Harley Quinn has high pigtails with two small sections of free flowing hair. I sectioned my hair into 4 main parts: the 2 large sections for the pigtails and 2 strands for the free flowing.

I used a back combing brush to add a bit of volume and texture to the roots of the hair.
I then put the hair into 2 high pigtails, placed just above ear level and towards the back of the head. I couldn't get a good picture of where they were so this is what it looked like from the front.
Using my normal routine, I applied my makeup. However, I've had a MASSIVE breakout so to take away some of the red, I used a green concealer (which is a lot less noticeable on this picture) after my foundation.
I then applied a 'transparent' powder over my entire face to make it as pale as possible because Harley Quinn is very pale.
I used a black eye shadow all over the lid and a glittery silver in the crease. I then blended the colours with a soft definer brush up towards my brow bone and out to give it a winged look.
I then applied a white eyeshadow under my eyebrows to make the black more dramatic and clean up any dark eyeshadow that that strayed too far.
I added black eyeliner to my water line and liquid eyeliner to my upper lashline. Using the same black eyeshadow, I used a precise shader brush and lined under my lower lashes.

I decided that I wasn't happy with the entire eye look being so black so using a crease brush, I added a dark purple to the outer edges of the eyeshadow. It was only a tiny amount but it goes a long way and adds an extra dimension to the look.
I added off with lots and lots and lots of mascara! I don't do falsies. I suck at putting them on and end up getting angry and smudging my makeup.
To finish, I used a black eyeliner to line my lips and applied a lovely purple lipstick before blending with a lip brush. Harley Quinn normally has red lips but I really wanted to use the purple for a more gothic look.
Sorry that my hair's pulled forward. I looked bald when I tried to take selfie with it back. My arms covered of it :(

OH! Before I forget, the brushes that I've referred to e.g. soft definer, precise shader etc. are from a ZOEVA make up brush collection that I won a few months ago in case anyone is confused about what I'm on about. I'll do a quicky post and go through them all soon.

Lemme Just Say...

Hello my sweethearts!

So, I've been seeing a lot of things floating around on the TV, on social media and I've even read an article on it. Fat Shaming. If I'm honest, it's not just fat shaming, it's Skinny Shaming, it's just people shaming.

And LET ME JUST SAY, this is NOT OK!!!

When did it become OK for people to look at others and make them feel bad about themselves because they've got a fat ass or flat chest, they've got wobbly bits or they can't keep weight on. When did it become such a crime to look different? Not even different, just average. When did it become such a despicable thing to carry a bit of weight or not be able to keep weight on?

I'm a bit girl. My BMI says I'm overweight. I spent years, I mean years, hating my body, hiding it, abusing it because I was told I was ugly, disgusting, no boy would want you.

I believed them and you know what I did. I cut myself to make me feel better. I starved myself. When I was 15, I used to surprise on chewing gum, cigarettes and a meal a day. I was miserable and I attempted to kill myself when I was 16 because my appearance bothered other people so much, they had to bring me down.

I have a boyfriend, have done for the past 2 years. He doesn't care that I'm chubby. He doesn't even see it. He loves me for who I am, for my child like fascination for Disney, my sleep talking, my love for animals.

People who look past your appearance are the ones you need in your life.

EMBRACE YOUR WOBBLY BITS! EMBRACE YOUR SHAPE!

Be yourself! Love yourself!

Don't change because someone says they don't like who you are. If you want to change, change for you. and, Dear God, DO NOT CHANGE FOR A PARTNER!

There are so many people out there that are beautiful with their 'imperfections'.

My inspirations are, and probably always will be, Beyonce and Shakira. I bow down to the work those women put into their careers, family and themselves. They don't listen to the negative comments from the media, they just brush it off and carry on.

Be like Beyonce; brush it off, hold your head up and carry on.

You're fabulous.

What do y'all like most about yourself? Or what are your experience of 'people shaming'?
I'd love to hear from all of you :)

No outfit is complete without lipstick!

Hi my honeybears!

Long time, no see! So, if you follow me on Twitter, you will have seen that I have just finished and PASSED all my first year Veterinary Nursing exams so I am officially half way to being a qualified veterinary nurse! So exciting! You will have also seen on Twitter, or in a previous post, that I am due to have surgery tomorrow which I am now a bit nervous for *sad face*.

Anyway, I decided that, since I have loads of them, that I would do a little post on lipsticks. I'm not going to go into loads of details about each one but I will be picking my best and worst. With lipstick, it's completely to do with how it suits your skin tone and whatnot.

Lets crack on!

This is the list and swatches of all lipsticks that I have/could find. I've tried to put them from nudes to reds but some have been mixed up in the middle.
I have just remembered that I have a Dolce and Gabbana purple lipstick as well but as I'm not a purple lipstick kinda gal, I'm giving it to a friend.

Nudes
Plus points; it's super creamy, very moisturising.
Minus points; it only suits me with a tan, otherwise it looks a touch too orangey.

Dolce and Gabbana Classic in Cinnamon /49
This is my favourite nude lipstick right now. I can't find it anywhere online which makes me fear it's been renamed or discontinued. I got this and the other 2 D&G lipsticks from my brother as he works in P&G who make TONNES of cosmetics and other wonderful stuff. It's so moisturising and the colour is such a perfect nude on my lips that it doesn't look like concealer. If you can get your hands on it, I highly recommend you invest it in.

Plus points; it's very nude (I wear it with my MAC lipstick on top) Minus points; too much and it looks like concealer
This looks so much like concealer when on that I just save it for any future fancy dress. It has earned a spot on my worst list. It's super drying too.

Currently not in stock. It's a touch too orange for my skin but otherwise, it's a lovely lipstick.

Pinks

This is too pale for me so another for the fancy dress box. Also, very drying.

This is my favourite, favourite, favourite pink lipstick! I love matte finishes and the colour is so pale, it is perfect for daytime wear.

I'm only going to briefly mention this because I don't think it's made anymore.
It doesn't give much colour, just a bit of sparkle.
 Bourjois Sweet Kiss

Plus points; it's lovely and girly. Very moisturising. Very pink
Minus points; It can be very Barbie to some people.

I really love this. It's super moisturising and cute. I love the fact it's like a chubby pencil, so easy to handle. There's a lovely selection of colours too so I really suggest you all buy at least one!

I dwell on this too much either as it no longer appears to be on sale. I'm neutral about this. It does change to suit your colouring but the end colour is so muted, it doesn't even look like you've got any on so it's a slight waste.

Dolce and Gabbana Classic lipstick in Shocking 290. This is superly duperly pink and shiny! I feel like a magpie at how happy I am about this. This could only be worn when you want to make a serious impact. Not for the faint of heart.

THIS IS MY FAVOURITE LIPSTICK EVER! Sorry, capslock crazy. But seriously, I love this lipstick. It smells fantastic, it looks fantastic. There's no drag, no drying, it's simply glorious. I need all the Soap and Glory cosmetics if they're all as amazing as this little beauty. Don't be afraid to try them just because they mainly do bath/shower/body products.

Reds

This is such a lovely dark pinky colour. It doesn't drag, goes on smooth as can be. I love most Rimmel lipsticks so I will just rave on and on about them. I don't wear this much because I prefer dramatic eyes but I do this it's a gorgeous colour.

I collect red lipsticks *blushes* I'm a bad Josie. I haven't quite found the perfect red for me but I do like this one. It's not quite the classic red red but it's still very pretty. It's really good value which is my main plus point. I don't have any particular minuses, I just don't do reds since they're hard to match.

I do like this 'Bright pinkish coral matte' lipstick. It's worth the money but I'd personally save it for special occasions. I have actually snapped mine in half *waaaah* so if anyone has any fail safe tips for fixing it, they are more than welcome and then I will do another review involving my poor, little lipstick.

 D&G Classic Lipstick in Iconic
I think this is definitely my favourite red lipstick so far. It's a very true red and make me feel like Marilyn Monroe when I tried it on. It's so silky and have a lovely skin on it. It makes me feel so sexy even though I was just in my trackies, hehe.

Sorry that I've not gone into details about all of the lipsticks but we could have been on forever. A lot of the lipsticks are very similar such as the Rimmel lipsticks are all very much the same when it comes to texture.

What's your favourite lipstick? Or are you more of an eye makeup kinda gals?

I'm off to get my rest, it's a big day tomorrow *scared* :(

Toodles!
